We’ve all heard this before. That speaking kindly to plants helps them grow. But what about you?
Do you speak kindly to yourself?
Is the voice inside your head (which we all have) kind or critical? Is it nice or is it nasty?
Your inner voice can either be your worst critic or your greatest cheerleader. If you’ve found your way to my site then I suspect it’s probably the former. You regularly hear you’re an idiot…you’re stupid…you’re ugly…you never do anything right…you’ll never amount to anything in life…you’re not good enough to do this or that…or to have this or that
The way we speak to ourselves has a huge impact on how we feel about ourselves and how our life unfolds.
I had coffee with a friend recently. He’s a very together, confident, mentally healthy person who had a great upbringing in a very loving family. When this topic came up in conversation I mentioned that people with low self-esteem generally have a very harsh, negative internal voice. He was shocked. He couldn’t get his head around it. He only spoke to himself in the most positive way – the way his parents had spoken to him and he assumed everyone else did the same….sadly not.
If you have a harsh, critical inner voice it’s often the voice of a very strict parent. You’ve more than likely left home now or that parent may have even died, but you’re still carrying their voice inside your head. It may also be the voice of a critical teacher or other authority figure.
One of two things happen when you have a critical inner voice – EITHER it withers and shrinks you, demotivating you and making everything in life more difficult OR it drives you forward relentlessly in an attempt to prove it wrong. This might seem the more positive of the two but it’s not really. You may achieve financial or career success but it will often be at great emotional cost.
Stop for a moment and analyse when you notice you’re talking to yourself. How does that voice speak to you? If it’s unkind or unhelpful then it’s got to be transformed. Changing the voice inside your head from critical to kind starts to change everything for you.
I really believe this is one of the main keys to good mental and emotional health.
Years ago I read a book called The Hidden Messages in Water by Dr Masaru Emoto. Fascinated by water, Dr Emoto conducted experiments where he froze different types of water and then took high intensity photographs of the ice crystals. Normal tap water produced very non-descript crystals because of the chemicals it contained, but fresh spring water produced beautiful intricate ice crystals. If he played classical music to the water before he froze it the crystals produced were even more beautiful and intricate.
Even more beautiful, intricate crystals were formed when positive words were spoken or written and attached to the water containers. Negative words or heavy metal music produced distorted damaged crystals. Hard to believe, but true.
The lesson we can learn from this book is the power of words. The vibration of good words has a very positive effect on us, whereas the vibration from negative words has the power to destroy.
The MOST beautiful crystals of all were formed by exposure to the words love and gratitude.
Humans are made up of 70% water. Our tissues, cells and blood all contain a lot of water. This percentage remains fairly consistent throughout our lives. If speaking kindly to plants helps them grow and speaking kindly to water produces beautiful exquisite ice crystals then what can it do for us humans?
We deserve to bloom and grow and be our most beautiful selves too.
Changing this voice is not an easy thing to do. But it can be done…with the right help.
Imagine having the most amazing cheerleader inside your head all the time.
The most wonderful emotional support with you whatever you are doing.
Having positivity and encouragement with you all day long.
You would grow and grow and grow.
This is completely possible if you change that voice from critical to kind. That’s how people with good healthy self-esteem speak to themselves and that’s what I want for you.
Much love
